Exclusive: Forbici Modern Italian is coming to downtown St. Pete

Forbici Modern Italian, a staple of the South Tampa dining scene, has signed a deal to open in The Sundial, a mixed-use development near St. Petersburg's iconic Beach Drive.

It will be the second location of Forbici — one that the restaurant's ownership says will help it prepare to scale the concept for a potential national expansion.

Forbici will occupy 7,000 square feet on the ground level of Sundial that was previously home to Locale Market, said Jeff Gigante, a partner in Next Level Brands, the Tampa-based hospitality company that owns Forbici. Tampa real estate executive Andrew Wright and attorney Joseph Guggino are Gigante's partners at Next Level Brands, which also owns Union New American in Westshore and Boulon Brasserie in Water Street Tampa.

Wright, CEO and cofounder of Tampa-based Franklin Street and Ally Capital Group, owns Sundial in a partnership with Paradise Ventures. Sundial has struggled for relevancy for years, even after businessman Bill Edwards poured millions into the property. But Wright and Paradise have a vision for the property that includes an indoor-outdoor bar for Forbici in the property's courtyard. Forbici will also have a 3,000-square-foot covered patio.
